I had a long week of midterms and stress, and for a while I did not think spring break would ever get here. Let me tell you- my vacation from my vacation was much needed.
My life was a whirl wind up to the point I left- hence the abrupt ending to my "Lexie Week" posting.
We left Saturday, March 16th in the afternoon at some point- I cannot even remember the time. I thought everything was organized really well, we had a folder with all of the tickets and boarding passes we need. The packing was as good as it was going to get and the apartment was clean- Alex, Caitlin and I were ready to go.
Every time I think my plans are running smoothly, however, without fail, things always go array. All I can do is laugh though.
It started with the last minute packing. We were running around with our heads cut off. After the showers and the hair dryer dying about three times, we realized there was no time to make our selves look presentable and that we had to leave-fail.
Then as we were leaving there was garbage, we all took a bag and Alex somehow got stuck with the one that leaked mysterious things all over her coat and boots-foiled again.
Then we got to the right bus to take us to the airport after asking 4 different people, only to find out I was wrong and our flight was 3 hours later than I had told everyone, so in reality, I could have finished my blog post, Alex could have straightened her hair, and Caitlin could have skyped her parents- foiled a third time.
We were still in Florence at this point.
Once we took off everything ran smoothly for a little bit. We got to the airport in Pisa around 6:00 and waited for our flight which was at 9:30. I have to say Ryan Air was not as bad as people make it out to be. Granted, I paid for a checked bag which did not exist and could not be refunded that money for any three of my flights. Yay. Other than that though it was a regular flight. I did, however, have a 14 year old boy staring at me the whole two hours I was sitting on the plane listening to my music. It was the most bizarre thing. I would look at him and catch him staring at me and he just would not look away. I almost gave him "the face" that Jenna Marbles does. If you do not know that reference, please Youtube it immediately. It is hilarious and perfect.
Once we landed in Girona, we needed to take another bus to Barcelona. At this point I saw that those tickets were the ONLY thing that did not print- foiled again. So I re-bought those and just accepted the fact that I suck at traveling.
Around midnight I think we reached Barcelona. Woop Woop! Then we had to walk 15 minutes to our lovely hostel. Caitlin was really nervous for this. I am not sure if I just have a weak radar for dangerous areas, or what but I was totally fine. I did not feel threatened whatsoever, I figured if I looked like I knew where I was going (which I did) and I did not look nervous or make eye contact yet be aware of my surroundings then I would be okay. And I am speaking to you today, so turns out I was right.
We got to the hostel, got checked in, and got up to our 16 bed dorm room. We did not realize this, but the room had two doors and automatic lights that turn off after a minute. We realized when we were trying to find our bed numbers while not waking anyone up and it went pitch black. After our long long day we had to run out to the balcony and died laughing. We felt our way to the second door and found the switch. I climbed up in bed and fell asleep to the morning.
I was exhausted.
The "walk around looking like I know where I am" is my #1 survival tip. Works like a charm. I have never once been made uncomfortable.
