Hello everyone, I am sorry it has been what seems like forever since the last time I wrote on here.
I have been terribly busy between Lexie visiting, midterms, and sucking the marrow out of each day. Such things really fill up the day let me tell you.
I am so happy Lexie came to see me and the time went by way to quickly. She got to see a little part of my life here in Florence. It was really cool and somewhat surreal. To say the least, the DeGrandchamp girls conquered Florence and partly Siena.
Getting her here was a bit of a mess, but then again, so are most things I do in my life. Her landlord and I had some communication issues when I was picking up the key. In reality, I did everything correctly. I woke up early, found her apartment with no problems, and called the landlord like I was directed. That is where there were some hiccups in the plan. She was not answering- nor was my favorite suit mate Alex. Yay. After buzzing every bell and yelling CHIAO like an idiot each time, I ran home, confirmed I was in 9the right place, then did it all over again. At this point Lexie had landed. WOOP. So I ran to the bus station (a ticket I had already purchased to make sure everything was going to go smoothly), and was finally going to get her. I got to the airport and ran in holding her mangled, wet, upside down, hand made DEGRANDCHAMP sign. Some to find out she had been waiting 45 minutes. fail.
After some phone tag and running around the city, we got the keys to her place! Her apartment was awesome and I LOVED being able to sprawl for the four short nights she had it.
I took her all over the city, and although it was the not the ideal weather, (it rains literally everyday here), there seemed to be an overall enjoyment for each thing we did.
Siena was probably my favorite. On the bus down, about seven Italian high school boys took over our back corner, and preceded to speak Italian to me. I did not have Alex there to help me out with this situation, so I took it as an opportunity to practice my language skills (which are slim still). From this very exhausting conversation, I found out that one boy was in love with me and that is was Women's Day!
The celebration of women was the hardest to find out. It started out with them literally shouting.. " Happy Birthday, no,party, happy woman, HAPPY WOMAN, WOMAN TOMORROW, greeting, I love you, happy woman." After some assistance from Google translate, we finally arrived at the common understand that yes, it was Woman's Day tomorrow and that I was loved by a 16 year old boy named Gino.
Then we got there.
We did everything you could do. Except the first Bubonic Plague hospital! =[. Let me just say that it was very high on our list, but I think between the excitement of seeing St. Catherine's thumb and real preserved head, it just totally slipped our minds.
I am really happy I went back to really see the city and enjoy it with Lexie.
We came back to Florence the next day and went on a wine tasting! It was great. We were in a group with a bunch of Swedish people. They were fabulous and perfect. I felt very mid-western that day. We visited a walled village that used to be a fortress. It was extremely adorable and it was FOR THE FIRST TIME ALL WEEK- sunny. So I was happy about that. On the tour Lexie ended up getting some goodies for back home which I was happy she got to do.
My weeks have been so so busy between midterms and now I am going on Spring Break. So I am ending this abruptly.
Mi Dispiace Chiao!
I'm so glad you had such a great week with Lexie! Lex said she had a wonderful time with her sister and that just warms my heart.
